Description
This EP, released in 2024, marked Michelle's first release in 7 years, and her first release of new original music in 11 years. During that time, Michelle began merging electronic-production values, jazz sensibilities, and Latin and Brazilian rhythmic roots, ultimately creating a unique collection of electronic jazz. Sometimes the pieces veer more toward straight-ahead dance, as with "Talvez Para Voar" (deep house). Sometimes, they are harder to put into one genre, like "Alone Together," the piece Michelle composed as for the San Jose Jazz organization's Jazz Aid Fund grant, which she was awarded in 2023; the version here has elements of leftfield, broken beat, and jazz fusion. Hints of reggaeton ("Be Right Back-Remixed") and bossa nova ("New Brighton") also make an appearance on this EP. As for the title, “I’m Just Happy to Be Here” reflects Michelle’s gratitude for being able to release new music after not being able to devote much time to creative pursuits for many years.
